1-Essay Prompt: Discuss changes in intellectual development in the Greek influenced areas from 500 B.C.E. to 30 B.C.E.
(due Monday--typed if possible)
2-Today's reading: The Changing Hellenistic World
Thursday, September 30, 2010
Friday, September 24, 2010
Some noteworthy notes:
1-Make sure you pick up both the Greek & Roman Political Institutions article AND the Bentley week 5 reading packet from me (neither is available in digital form... yet).
2-We're off track with our reading schedule and everything else, so the week 5 reading quiz will be October 4... PLEASE GET CAUGHT UP ON YOUR READINGS!!!
3-Remember, you need to have at least 2 of your SPEC sheets done by next Tuesday... yes, this will count as a project grade!
Oh, you're still reading? Good. So, you'd like some extra credit? How 'bout this:
Catch up on the news from the last week. Find an article on CNN.com or bbc.com or some other news site that you like. Print it out (or cut it out) and write a paragraph explaining the connection between what you read and what we have been studying for the last couple of weeks. This is EXTRA credit... so I will be picky. I'm looking for some real thought, not just a few obvious factoids.
Due: Tuesday, September 28

REMINDER
The exam has been moved to FRIDAY. However, PLEASE devote some time to your review guide before class tomorrow so we can target specific areas to review, rather than just going over some random stuff.
Also, we will go over: Hinduism (Law of Manu) packet, Great Revolutions, and SOAPS #2. Have them all completed.

WEDNESDAY
If you were on the field trip, you need to come see me ASAP for two important things:
1-SNAPSHOT project. There are three things you need for this. You can get them from me, or print them out:
* Instructions
* SPEC Sheets (You need 4 of these)
* Map (you will need a piece of legal sized paper for this--that's 8/12 X 14)
2-EXAM 1 REVIEW--The exam will take place next Wednesday, September 22
* Review Guide + Study tips
* Religion Matrix --Use this to compare the religions we've studied so far. Adapt this matrix to review anything, from different civilizations to social classes... anything.
(YES, I will have copies of these available by the end of the school day Wednesday. Please stop by & pick them up BEFORE the long weekend!)

Rare Opportunity
I don't often offer extra credit (there is no extra credit in the real world!), but occasionally...
Read this and write a two paragraph plus a position statement response. Paragraph 1=points Diamond makes that you agree with. Paragraph 2=points he makes that you disagree with. Wrap it up with a position statement: Overall do you agree or disagree with Diamond and why?
20 points extra credit toward your essay grades...
(credit will not be given after Monday, September 13)
PS... Major mad props to anyone who can tell me what a "Luddite" is in class on Thursday...
